Umbreon VMAX 215/203: the most coveted modern card and what it costs

The Moonbreon from Evolving Skies is worth €1,500 to €2,100 raw and about €3,400 in PSA 10, October 2026. Its story, comparisons and risks.

A sealed clear case with a card inside, standing on a dark slate tile. Cold light, like moonlight, comes through the window, with blue and silver reflections on the plastic. The rest of the oak desk stays in shadow.

Umbreon VMAX Alternate Art 215/203 from Evolving Skies (Evoluzioni Eteree) is the modern card that more collectors are looking for than any other, in Italy and beyond. Raw, it is worth between €1,500 and €2,100 today according to the Pokechrono catalogue, and in PSA 10 about €3,400 according to PriceCharting, October 2026. In this article we explain where this price comes from, how it compares with the other cards in the set and why, on a card like this, the slab is not a luxury.

A night on the roof: the card and its set

Evolving Skies came out in August 2021, in the middle of the Sword & Shield series. It is the set that made alternate arts famous: full-card illustrations, with the Pokémon placed in a scene instead of isolated on a background.

The one on Umbreon VMAX 215/203 shows Umbreon sitting on the roof of a house at night, with the full moon behind it. Hence the nickname Moonbreon, which collectors now use more than the official name. The number 215 in a set of 203 cards tells you it is a secret rare: cards beyond the set total are the hardest to find.

Why it is so hard to pull from a pack

The VMAX alternate arts occupy the rarest slot in Evolving Skies, a set already full of sought-after cards: Rayquaza VMAX, Sylveon VMAX, Umbreon V and more. Anyone opening packs is therefore chasing many cards, with a single Moonbreon at the top of the list.

All sorts of estimates of the exact pull rate circulate, and we do not repeat them as facts. What we do know is that the set has been reprinted several times, that packs keep being opened and that the price of the card has not fallen. When supply increases and the price holds, the demand is real.

What it costs today: raw and PSA 10

The catalogue figures, updated October 2026:

  • raw, in collector's condition: between €1,500 and €2,100;
  • PSA 10, last month's price: about €3,400, up 4% over twelve months according to PriceCharting;
  • the PSA 10 is worth about 1.8 times the raw card and about 1.9 times a PSA 9.

Two things stand out. The first is the stability: over twelve months the price moves by a few points, while many cards from 2025 have lost a third of their value. The second is the modest premium of the 10. A modern card, printed with care, gets the top grade fairly often, so the 10 is not an absolute rarity as it is on the Base Set. The high price lies in the card, not in the grade.

The comparison with Rayquaza VMAX and Umbreon V

In the same set, Rayquaza VMAX 218/203 is the second most sought-after card. Raw it is worth between €950 and €1,300, in PSA 10 about €1,850, up 15% over twelve months according to PriceCharting, October 2026. It is a splendid card, with a similar PSA 10 to raw ratio, about 1.9 times. And yet it is worth little more than half the Moonbreon.

Umbreon V 189/203, the basic form of the same Pokémon in the same set, tells another story: between €350 and €430 raw, about €880 in PSA 10, down 13% over twelve months. Same subject, same set, same secret rarity. The difference is the VMAX, and above all the illustration the community has chosen as its symbol.

In short: in October 2026 the Moonbreon in PSA 10 is worth almost twice Rayquaza VMAX and almost four times Umbreon V, all from the same set.

Modern vintage: the alt arts of 2021 and 2022

For years Pokémon collecting had a single reference point: the Base Set of 1999. The Sword & Shield alternate arts, between 2021 and 2022, created a second category. They are cards recent enough to still be found in good numbers, but iconic enough to no longer be "new cards".

We call it modern vintage because it behaves like vintage: the price does not depend on play, which for these cards ended long ago, but on the illustration, the rarity and collector demand. Evolving Skies, Fusion Strike and Lost Origin are the three reference sets of this category, and the Moonbreon is their high point.

Fakes, slabs and why we rely on grading

A card worth as much as a good computer attracts counterfeiters. Reproductions of the Moonbreon circulate in very different qualities, and some are convincing in a photo. For this reason we do not recommend buying a raw copy from a seller you do not know in person.

The slab solves two problems at once: the grading company has checked the authenticity and set the grade, and the certificate number on the label can be verified on the company's website in a minute. On Pokechrono every Umbreon VMAX at auction comes in PSA 10, with the certificate shown on the listing and a second check by our expert before shipping. How we work is described on the how we verify page.

If you own a graded Moonbreon and are thinking of selling it, the sell page explains how consignment works. If instead you are looking for one, the card's listing shows the up-to-date price and, when there is one, the open auction.

Frequently asked questions

How much is Umbreon VMAX 215/203 worth in 2026?

Raw, between €1,500 and €2,100 according to the Pokechrono catalogue. In PSA 10 the last month's price is about €3,400, source PriceCharting, October 2026. These are prices of completed sales, not a forecast.

Why is it called Moonbreon?

Because of the illustration: Umbreon sitting on a rooftop at night, with the full moon behind it. The nickname was born among collectors and everyone uses it today, including those searching for the card in Italian.

Is it better to buy it graded or raw?

For a card of this value we always recommend the slab with a verifiable certificate. The PSA 10 premium over the raw card is modest, about 1.8 times, but the sealed case protects against fakes and touched-up copies.
