Eevee and the Eeveelutions: why collectors love them so much

Eevee has eight evolutions, one per type, and that alone explains half of its fortune: a collector can choose their own, or want them all. The other half is a card from 2021, the Umbreon VMAX from Evolving Skies, which turned a family of likeable Pokémon into the most sought-after line in modern collecting. From then on every set, every product and every Christmas with Eevee in it has had an audience ready and waiting.

From the 1996 Eevee to the eight evolutions

Eevee appears in the first video games, in 1996, with three evolutions: Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon, obtained with a stone. Gold and Silver, in 1999, add Espeon and Umbreon, tied to friendship and the time of day; Diamond and Pearl, in 2006, Leafeon and Glaceon; X and Y, in 2013, Sylveon. Eight evolutions, nine Pokémon with Eevee, each time a different type and a different colour.

It is a structure unique in the game: no other Pokémon has a family so wide and so recognisable. Collecting has built on it.

2021: Umbreon and Espeon, the alt arts that changed the market

Evolving Skies, August 2021, is the set of the Eeveelutions in VMAX form, with an alternate art for each. The Umbreon VMAX 215/203, the Umbreon on the rooftop in the moonlight, becomes the most sought-after modern card in the world: between €1,500 and €2,100 ungraded and about €3,400 in PSA 10 according to PriceCharting in October 2026.

A few months later, Fusion Strike adds the Espeon VMAX 270/264, the Espeon on a low wall in a sunlit street, in the same urban series as the Gengar VMAX: between €220 and €280 ungraded, about €600 in PSA 10. Umbreon and Espeon, the night and day pair, become the heart of every Eeveelution collection.

2025: an entire set around Eevee

Prismatic Evolutions, January 2025, is the answer to that demand: a special set built around Eevee and its evolutions, with a Special Illustration Rare for each. It was the most sought-after set of 2025 in Italy, sold almost only in special products, with a supply that never caught up with demand.

The nine SIRs sit on a price scale that reflects the affection for each Pokémon. At the top the Umbreon ex; lower down the Sylveon ex 156/131, between €240 and €300 ungraded and about €1,100 in PSA 10; and at the base, accessible and for many the starting point, the Eevee ex 167/131, between €100 and €135 ungraded and about €410 in PSA 10.

2026: the 30th Celebration picks Eevee

The 30th Celebration line, on sale in Italy as the 30° Anniversario since 16 September 2026, puts Eevee front and centre. The Eevee 2-pack booster blister, at €27.90, is the simplest way in. On 30 October the Espeon-ex and Umbreon-ex Battle Decks come out, as a pair at €94.90, night and day once again. And on 6 November comes the Ultra-Premium Collection Umbreon-ex, at €390.90, the flagship product of Christmas 2026, on pre-order with shipping from release day.

For products not yet released, the exact contents are the official ones, shown on the product listing: what we know is that an Ultra-Premium normally contains a dedicated promo card, metal cards and booster packs, and that the previous ones sold out quickly.

The Eeveelutions Poncho and the pleasure of a complete set

There is one more thing the Eeveelutions teach: the value of a complete series. The Japanese Eeveelution promos with the poncho, one per evolution, are an example: a complete set in PSA 10 was sold on eBay in 2023 for $7,454, a figure none of the individual cards would have reached on its own. Eeveelution collectors collect families, and a complete family is worth more than the sum.

Why they are loved: choice, affection, completism

Three reasons, in order. Choice: with eight evolutions everyone has their own, and your own Eeveelution is often the first answer when someone asks what your favourite Pokémon is. Affection: Eevee is a Pokémon you raise, and its evolutions remind everyone of the game in which they did it. Completism: nine cards in a series, nine colours, a collection with a beginning and an end, and one you can start again with every new set.

On Pokechrono the Eeveelutions are present both in the card catalogue, where every listing has the ungraded range and the month's PSA 10 value, and in the sealed products shop. When one of these cards goes to auction, how it works is written down before any bid, and the PSA 10 certificate can be verified on the grading company's website.
