Why it's in the top 50

Italian collectors buy in Japanese (“found in Japan, what's it worth?”): the JP market is the global reference, up to the $16.49M record for the Pikachu Illustrator.

What to know

Japanese cards are the cheapest route to the most sought-after artwork: the Umbreon ex SAR 217/187 from Terastal Festival ex is the equivalent of the 161/131 from Prismatic Evolutions at a fraction of the price; the Pokémon Card 151 boxes and the Mega Brave / Mega Symphonia sets (2025) are the most imported JP sealed products. At the opposite extreme, the Pikachu Illustrator (CoroCoro promo, 1998) is the museum piece of the hobby. For JP cards check the whitening on the back edges and the provenance; TCGdex does not list the Illustrator and has no images for Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia.
